Around 12,000 people flocked to see last night’s (Thursday) first-ever British Touring Cars Live: Edinburgh event, in association with the City of Edinburgh Council, take place in the Scottish capital to the backdrop of the city’s world famous Castle.
Team RAC’s Colin Turkington and Rob Collard were in the thick of the action and after signing thousands of autographs for the public, joined in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship event by putting on an unforgettable show on Johnston Terrace when they demonstrated the MG ZS which they will be racing at Knockhill this weekend.
The Team RAC car was fitted with a second seat enabling both Rob and Colin to offer passengers the ride of a lifetime up the street circuit. After the event Rob said: "It was a really great crowd at Edinburgh and the atmosphere was buzzing. To see all those people lining the street in support was fantastic and I hope we can expect the same level of support at Knockhill. I enjoyed the event tremendously and judging by the faces of my passengers, I think they did too."
Around 135,000 more people listened in on Edinburgh’s top radio station Forth One that broadcast live from the event. More is being aired on One and its sister station FORTH2 today.
There will be a chance to see highlights of the event on Sunday when the BTCC’s race meeting from Knockhill receives live national terrestrial television coverage on the ITV1 channel commencing at 15:00hrs.
